Greenhouse Juice Co. / Toronto

Greenhouse Juice Co. in Toronto is an amazing place and first of its kind in this city. There are other great juice bars in Toronto but it is the specific product, concept, design, integrity and passion behind this juice company that makes it truly unique and inspiring. This is why I decided that my first post in this “Out&About” section would be all about Greenhouse Juice Co.

The Out&About section of my blog is dedicated to healthy living in the city, particularly that of Toronto. I will also use this space to post about my experience while traveling to different cities or countries. I hope that this section of my blog introduces some new places, while also serving as inspiration for healthy urban living.

I over-excitedly entered Greenhouse Juice on a sunny Monday morning. I should preface this by saying that I am a huge juice fan, and after the weekend I was craving juice like crazy. Not only that, but I was also excited to meet some staff members and learn more about this seemingly awesome juice bar.

As soon as you approach Greenhouse Juice, it already feels like this is a place you need to be. It is very inviting, and upon entering you already feel happier, lighter and healthier. I met with Emma and Greenhouse partner Hana and they immediately provided me with a juice tasting, also known as their juice flight. I tried the juices and got to try some smoothies too. After I had decided upon my favorites (we will get to that later) I got to chat with Emma for a bit to learn more about Greenhouse Juice Co.

Greenhouse Juice was founded by 7 native-Toronto partners who simply saw a lack of cold-pressed juice bars in Toronto. Many of the partners lived in LA or New York, where cold-press juiceries are found in abundance and were relied upon for energy sources and vegetable intake. Visiting their home-town to see family and friends, there was a mutual agreement that Toronto needed a place like this. Thus, came to be Greenhouse Juice Co.

I asked Emma about the name Greenhouse Juice and I loved her response. She said the name was inspired by the look of the building (which looks like a greenhouse), but also that the symbol of a greenhouse perfectly embodies their products as “ living things bottled in glass”. Just perfect.

The products speak for themselves. Although juice is their main thing, they also create delicious smoothies and almond milks! The combinations are all unique, delicious and created with the health benefits in mind through a trial-and-error process. They are made fresh daily and are all cold-pressed. Cold-pressed means that the juices are not heated during the juicing process and thus contain the highest amount of nutrients possible. They are also 100% organic and if they can not find organic produce then they will not create the juice. This is what Emma calls the “ zero compromise niche”.

The integrity of this “zero compromise niche” also relates to the packaging. The juices and milks are all packaged in a reusable glass bottle, which was also a non-negotiable. Glass bottles are better for the environment and also ensure that chemicals from the plastic do not leach into the product. As well, using glass bottles avoids using HPP ( High Pressure Processing), which is a process used to extend shelf life of juices in plastic bottles. HPP actually inhibits the growth of live enzymes found naturally in cold-pressed juice. They also have an awesome bottle return policy- if you bring back 10 bottles you receive a free 250 ml juice and a free yoga pass to Roots Yoga, which is just across the street!

Anyone who comes to Greenhouse Juice will probably be drawn to the design and to the unique aesthetic of the bottles, logo and interior. It turns out that most partners come from a design or artistic background. The design was very important for the creation of Greenhouse Juice as they wanted the total experience to be a pleasurable one.

Although only opened for about 6 months, I had to ask what was next for Greenhouse Juice. Emma told me they are launching their website and a delivery service soon! Fresh Juice delivered to your home? Yes, please!

So, what should you try first?

Well, to give you some ideas, the most popular juice was “ Gold Rush”, but is currently “ The Good”.  ” The Good”, which is full of green vegetables, is also currently a staff favourite. As for my favorite? Although I am partial to green juice, I also loved “Wake up” (orange, lemon, grapefruit & cayenne) and “Rabbit, Run” ( apple, carrot & ginger). But, I say try for yourself and see what juice you love the best!

Greenhouse Juice is the real deal and definitely a place that everyone needs to try, if not frequent. I highly encourage all Torontonians and visitors alike to pop on over as soon as possible. No matter what your eating habits are like, you can always make room for the extra health-boosting properties of juice. Remember, it is all about adding to your life, not depriving yourself. This is a mantra of Greenhouse Juice, and of course, of mine. Especially when you know that this company does not compromise on any of the ingredients or on their packaging. Thanks to Greenhouse Juice Co. for creating healthy options when Out&About!

Have a great and healthy week!
