My Morning Smoothie

I have definitely been on a huge smoothie kick as of late. If any of you follow my Instagram or Facebook you will know what I am talking about. I thought a great way to launch my new blog (and website, YAY!), was with a good ol’ smoothie recipe.

I love smoothies for many reasons. Not only do I love the taste and texture, but I also love how you can fit so many nutrients and “superfoods” into one nifty glass, or mason jar. Smoothies are an easy, filling, nutrient dense and easy-to-digest meal. They are great for some extra energy and can aid in digestion. What is not to love about that?

I always experiment with different smoothie recipes, some more interesting than others, and some tastier than others. I am sure many smoothie recipes are to come, but for today I decided to share with you my basic smoothie recipe that I have been making a lot lately.

Sarah’s Morning Smoothie

1 cup almond milk
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp hemp hearts
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp almond butter (or any nut/seed butter)
1 banana
1/2 pear
1 handful kale
1 handful spinach

Add all ingredients together in a blender and blend until smooth. Add water or milk as needed.

This is the base of my smoothie, but I always add some extra boosters in there.
Optional: cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, ashwaghanda powder, maca, bee pollen or gogi berries.

I will also note that this smoothie is great for breakfast but also a good snack or an on-the-go meal.

      Thanks Anna!
Notably, this smoothie has a great source of protein and healthy fats from the chia seeds, hemp hearts and almonds. The green vegetables add lots of vitamins and minerals specifically including iron, b vitamins, calcium, vitamin K and are full of anti-oxidants. This smoothie is also very hydrating! If you are looking for the exact nutritional breakdown (calories, carbs, protein etc.) I can post that below.
